Detailed Overview

I’m a fan of the iFit lineup of exercise machines, which of course includes both ProForm and NordicTrack. Built to work with the iFit app, these ellipticals offer a unique opportunity to access both live and on-demand programming, as well as automatic trainer control. Sitting at the top of the ProForm lineup of ellipticals for 2024 is the ProForm Pro HIIT H14, and if you’re looking for high intensity interval training, this is built for you. The Pro HIIT H14 features a more vertical elliptical path that makes it somewhat of an elliptical/stepper hybrid. To diversify the workout, multi-grip handlebars move with an invigorating boxing-like motion to work the arms and core. And thanks to the alternating intensity levels, users will boost their metabolic rates not only during workouts but for many hours beyond. This machine does it all. The times I’ve been on this machine have generated some of the deepest burns I’ve felt in my quads.

As you’ve seen in my other machine reviews, I consider screen size to be a big deal. You’re either looking for a machine with a high-definition touchscreen or you’re not. If you are, then this model is right up your alley. The 14-inch full-color touchscreen provides access to a plethora of video training classes in iFit. As dynamic and interactive as a tablet, you’ll be able to interact with some of the highest quality workout videos and programming around. The purchase price of $1,799 is up over last year a bit, but this does include include a 30-day subscription to iFit. I will be frank, if you’re not into the iFit workout program, you probably won’t like this machine as much. Yes, it will work without the app, but the screen effectively goes into a default manual mode and you lose a lot of value.

In Brief

The Pro HIIT H14 is among the higher end ellipticals in terms of features but comes at a relatively bargain price of $1,799. The 14-inch touchscreen is definitely among the larger sized on the market. Equipped with a whopping 30-pound flywheel, this unit sports up to 26 levels of Silent Magnetic Resistance which means you’ll have smooth and quiet workouts without the shake, rattle, and roll. The elliptical measures 29″ x 52″ x 66″ and weighs 224 pounds in-box. Oversized leveling feet help keep this secure on the ground and the machine can support up to 325 pounds in user weight. This isn’t a particularly mobile-friendly unit in my experience. So unlike smaller ellipticals, you’ll want to put this in a place where it’s going to stay. But if you like working out in comfort and enjoy the dynamic of interactive training programs, the Pro HIIT H14 is worth the investment.

In-Depth Review of the ProForm Pro HIIT H14

Why We Like It

The ProForm Pro HIIT H14 is an upper level elliptical from a solid brand. What I really like about this unit is the overall level of comfort this size of a machine affords me, as well the interactive nature of the iFit app. Priced at $1,799, you’ll get what you pay for here as opposed to lower priced models. In terms of exercise quality, the value to an elliptical is you get all the cardiovascular training of an incline treadmill without the stress on your joints. The design of an elliptical is also more space-conscious than the treadmill, which typically takes up more room.

It Has A Terrific 14″ HD Touchscreen

As I’ve said before, you either want a screen or you don’t. For those that aren’t into big, flashy touchscreens, this model is clearly not for you. But, for those who enjoy interactive training, I’ve found 14 inches to be a real sweet spot. In addition to the touchscreen, which is designed to work with iFit, the console includes fan controls and those for resistance and volume. Whether your hiking in the mountains of Scotland, or skiing across the Alps, the screen provides enough size and quality to give you immersive experience.

The Machine is iFit-Enabled

Like the rest of the ProForm lineup, the Pro HIIT H14 comes iFit-enabled, meaning the program automatically syncs up. In addition to tens of thousands of on-demand workout programs, iFit also provides live trainers from remote locations. Like most apps these days, the program features workouts for every style of exercise from cardio to strength, yoga, and Pilates, as well as nutrition. What’s really unique is the automatic trainer control that allows the machine to adjust the resistance to match the workout or trainer’s commands. This also works in sync with the Bluetooth SmartBeat armband as part of iFit’s ActivePulse Technology which, in addition to monitoring the heart rate, can adjust the machine’s resistance to keep it on target.  Priced at $39 per month for the family, individual plans come at $15 per month. The app can also be downloaded onto smartphones, tablets, or smart televisions. The only real downside to iFit-enabled machines is their screens only work with that program. No, you can’t use the screen to access Netflix. Without iFit, the screen goes into a manual mode and you can still use the elliptical, but frankly it loses a lot of value.

26 Levels of Silent Magnetic Resistance

With a 30-pound flywheel and 26 levels of magnetic resistance, there’s very little you can’t do here, irrespective of your level of conditioning. The value to the 30-pound flywheel is the stability as heavier flywheels are less like to wobble about when the machine speeds up. Magnetic resistance is all the rage and easily my own favorite. Smooth and silent, your neighbors won’t even hear a whir as this machine gets going. In my own experience, even 10 levels of resistance is sufficient due to your own bodyweight being involved. But if you’re looking for the highest level of HIIT possible, you can be sure you won’t outgrow this machine.

ProForm Pro HIIT H14 Dimensions

The dimensions of the ProForm Pro HIIT H14 measures 29″ x 52″ x 66″ and comes with front-mounted wheels to make it easier to move. This machine’s step-up height is about 15 inches. As a rule, I’d advise having ceilings at least 8 feet in height.

ProForm Pro HIIT H14 Machine Weight

The ProForm Pro HIIT H14 weighs 224 pounds in-box and can support up to 325 pounds in user weight.

What We Like:

  • Great Stride

The Pro HIIT H14 features a 10-inch vertical and 5-inch horizontal stride, which is more than sufficient for even taller users.

  • Full Body Workout

With multi-grip-grip handlebars, you’ll get an upper body workout as well as lower. This reminds me of cross-country skiing uphill. The handlebars are positioned to fit most sizes of users.

  • Heart Rate Monitoring

If you opt for the using the iFit package, you’ll be able to use the ActivePulse workout technology by way of a SmartBeat armband, sold separately.

  • 14-inch HD Touchscreen

The 14-inch screen is a really nice touch if you like interactive training. You’ll be able to immerse yourself in workouts as diverse as mountain skiing to hiking.

  • Good Warranty

ProForm offers up to 10 years on the frame, two years for parts, and one year for assembly.

What We Don’t Like:

  • iFit-Dependent

The machine can be used without iFit, but the screen loses a lot of value.

This Elliptical Could Be For You If You Want:

  • Up to 26 levels of resistance
  • Interactive iFit workouts
  • A 14-inch HD Touchscreen
  • A large, solid machine

Our Verdict:

At $1,799, the ProForm Pro HIIT H14 is no cheapie, that’s for sure. The good news is the quality is there. My only qualifier here is that buyers should be ready to use iFit. Check out the video above and see if it’s for you. Yes, you can use the machine without it but frankly, what’s the point? I myself love the program and have no qualms recommending it, but others might not want to pay the monthly fee. But if you’re into interactive training, this machine is a very solid buy.
