Detailed Overview

The ElliptiGo “Meb 8S” is a limited edition mid-level model, similar to the 8C and 11R, in the line of outdoor elliptical bikes by ElliptiGo, offered for $2,999. This model honors Meb Keflezighi’s victory at the 2014 Boston Marathon, featuring his signature and motto, “Run to Win,” along with a patriotic-themed design and pain job and decaling. Just like the 8C, the 8S has the ability to go up to 25 mph, with a comfortable average cruising speed of 15 mph. Users can also choose from eight levels of resistance, or speeds, and climb up to a 20-30% grade. The 8S features a 306% total gear range, which means that for the same pedaling speed, a user could travel over three times as fast in top gear as bottom, and a 17% difference between levels. When it comes to the frame, the 8S aluminum frame weighs at 40 pounds, just a few pounds heavier than the elite 11R model, and comes in between 50 to 58 inches in height when in operation. Also like the 11R, the steering column is foldable and can be folded and and shortened to 32 inches, perfect for indoor storage. The front and rear brakes are a linear pull rim brakes system, with two-finger brake levers and 53-tooth chainring (the most in the series). The Ergon GC3 multi-position grips are comfortable are just in reach. Both the front and rear wheels are 20 inches total, with 28 spokes in the front and 32 at the back, and a Sturmey 8-speed geared hub and integral aluminum track system.  The 8S also features a dual leg aluminum kickstand.

Our Favorite Features

  • Adjustable stride from 16 to 25 inches
  • Sits higher up than a traditional bicycle
  • Ergonomic design with adjustable steering column
  • Foldable steering extender, removable front wheel
  • Ergon GC3 multi-position ergonomic grips with integral bar ends
  • 8 levels of resistance, 306% total resistance range, 17% difference between levels
  • 40 pounds (second lightest in the series)

Our Least Favorite Features

  • No water bottle holder
  • Open track for rollers can allow for debris to get in track
  • Price (cheaper than 11R but still pretty costly for an elliptical trainer)

The Bottom Line

The ElliptiGo “Meb 8S” is a step up from the Elliptigo 8C model, with some of the performance features of the 11R, but without the price tag. The 8S is a perfect compromise if you want some of the advanced performance features of the elite 11R model but don’t want to spend the money. While the 8S is about $500 more expensive than the 8C, the extra cost is worth it if you plan to purchase the 8C anyway.
